How do I make myself unsearchable on facebook? Facebook is a powerful social marketing tool, and sometimes you don't want people to be able to search you on Facebook, unless they are your friends. Managing your Facebook search privacy settings will allow you to turn on or turn off 'public search' on search engines. You can also disable the ability for Facebook users to search for you based on telephone number and email address. Just follow the tutorials below to make your profile more private.

Note: The 'Facebook public' setting used to turn off Facebook searching as well as search engine searching, but the wording has changes. I believe the functionality is the same and Facebook is just 'unintuative' as usual.

Disable email and phone number lookup (People will not be able to search you on Facebook using your email or phone number )

  1. Log into your Facebook account.
  2. Click the small downward pointing arrow next to the 'Home' link at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on 'Privacy Settings'.
  4. Click the 'Edit Settings' link in the 'How you connect' area.
  5. Click the button next to 'Who can look you up using the email address or phone number you provided?' and change the setting to 'Friends'.
