When people find your site based on given keywords they\u2019ve searched for, then bounce, Google detects the bounce and de-ranks your web page for those keywords.<\/p>\n<p>Google considers it a bounce when a visitor arrives at a website and then leaves without clicking on a link, regardless of how long they\u2019ve stayed on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Blogs and information-based websites have a naturally high bounce rate of 50%-80%.<\/p>\n<p>I lowered my Google bounce rate significantly (70%) just by Setting up a Google Webmaster Tools account and verifying my website. I\u2019m not sure how this made a difference, but it has. Notice the significant drop in my site\u2019s bounce rate in the graph below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/2slick.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/eliminate_bounce_rate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-image: initial; border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"eliminate_bounce_rate\" src=\"http:\/\/2slick.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/eliminate_bounce_rate.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"701\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Steps for lowering your bounce rate:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Create an account at <a title=\"Gooel Wbemaster Central\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CDEQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2F&amp;ei=1-gQT4r3HKWWiALDpp3UCA&amp;usg=AFQjCNHRdsvJbOWLCqMoLtM0kUyTiNOzdw\" target=\"_blank\">Google Webmaster Central<\/a>:<\/li>\n<li>Sign in to you Webmaster tools account.<\/li>\n<li>Click the 'Add A Site' button.<\/li>\n<li>Enter in the URL of your website in the 'Enter the URL of a site you'd like to manage' field.<\/li>\n<li>Click the 'Alternate methods' tab.<\/li>\n<li>Check the radio button 'Upload an HTML file to your server'.<\/li>\n<li>Click the link on step 1. and download the html file.<\/li>\n<li>Using an FTP program, upload the html file to the root directory of your website. Most website's root directory is the 'public_html folder.<\/li>\n<li>Click the 'Verify' button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should have gotten a 'Verification successful' message.<\/p>\n<p>Have fun lowering your bounce rate!<\/p>\n<h3>Update<\/h3>\n<p>Upon trying this technique a second time, I wasn't able to duplicate the results.
