HTML works in tandom with a web browser. HTML is considered a markup language. Many other markup languages and programming languages have been developed sense the beginning of the internet, but HTML still remains the fundamental way to publish content for web browsers to read.

What is CMS

CMS stands for Content Management System. Web developers and web designers soon realized that updating hundreds of HTML web pages for a single website is quite the chore. Eventually, CMS software was developed using HTML and Javascript to help manage large websites. With a CMS, you can easily update all the pages of a website within seconds. Another huge benefit of the CMS is collaboration. Some websites are run by large companies or have a large number of writers who publish articles for the site. A CMS allows multiple people to coordinate together when working on a site. Not long after the CMS was developed, the practice of designing website in purely HTML became scarce.

There are many more markup and programming languages one can use to developed websites today and still CMSs have remained the easiest way to maintain websites. HTML is hardly ever used by itself to create a website today because it is too limited, and not cost effective. There has been an insignificant surge in purely HTML driven website by hobbyists trying their hand in DreamWeaver. CMS technology does have limitations along with benefits. Some hobbyists make the mistake of switching to Dreamweaver and a purely HTML driven website instead of simply finding a different CMS Theme.

I’ve been asked what is better for website development in the area of CMS vs HTML and here’s what I have to say.
