{"id":5979,"date":"2012-09-10T21:14:11","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T21:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/2slick.com\/web\/?p=5979"},"modified":"2012-09-14T20:36:13","modified_gmt":"2012-09-14T20:36:13","slug":"godaddy-hacked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2slick.com\/web\/godaddy-hacked\/affordablewebsitestips\/news","title":{"rendered":"Godaddy Hacked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why isn't my Godaddy.com website working?\u00a0<a title=\"godaddy domain registrar and hosting\" href=\"http:\/\/www.godaddy.com\/\">Godaddy<\/a>, the world's largest domain registrar,\u00a0was hacked September 10th.\u00a0The <a title=\"hacking collective anonymous\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anonymous_(group)\" target=\"_blank\">hacking collective Anonymous<\/a> (<a title=\"AnonymousOwn3r\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnonymousOwn3r\" target=\"_blank\">@AnonymousOwn3r<\/a>)\u00a0claims\u00a0responsibility saying \"I'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that I can not talk now.\".<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Millions of websites were affected. Many websites that use Godaddy web hosting or domain registrar services were affected.<\/p>\n<p>Godaddy's Facebook Status states: \"We're continuing our work to get back on track. This is our #1 priority. We'll keep posting updates here. Thanks for all the support. Seguimos trabajando para restablecer servicio a todos. Esto es nuestra prioridad #1. Gracias por el apoyo.\"\u00a0<a title=\"godaddy facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GoDaddy\" target=\"_blank\">Godaddy's Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n<p>GoDaddy\u00a0apologized\u00a0to customers and tweets \"We're continuing our work to get back on track. This is our #1 priority. We'll keep posting updates here. Thanks for all the support.\" To stay up to day on Godaddy's progress on the issue <a title=\"godaddy on twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoDaddy\">follow Godaddy on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Godaddy later reported that the down-time wasn't a result of being hacked but rather a\u00a0router\u00a0issue.<\/p>\n<p>Here's the apology letter they mailed out to their customers.<\/p>\n<p>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: arial, helvetica;\"><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: arial, helvetica;\">Dear (((customer name))),<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We owe you a big apology for the intermittent service outages we experienced on September 10 that may have impacted your website, your email and other Go Daddy services.<\/p>\n<p>We let you down and we know it. We take our responsibilities \u2014 and the trust you place in us \u2014 very seriously. I cannot express how sorry I am to those of you who were inconvenienced.<\/p>\n<p>The service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.godaddy.com\/default.aspx?isc=Apology1\">GoDaddy.com<\/a>. We have implemented a series of immediate measures to fix the problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At no time was any sensitive customer information, including credit card data, passwords or names and addresses, compromised.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout our history, we have provided 99.999% uptime in our DNS infrastructure. This is the level of performance we expect from ourselves. Monday, we fell short of these expectations. We have learned from this event and will use it to drive improvement in our services.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this disruption, <strong>your account will be credited for the value of 1-month of service for each of your active\/published sites.* This credit will be available to you for the next 7 days.
