How Do I Get Google Analytics

To get Google Analytics on your site you first have to create a Google Analytics account google.com/analytics. After you create the account you can then specify a website to track, and a code snippet will be given to you. You paste your code snippet into your website's theme admin or HTML to get Analytics working.

How to set up Google Analytics

  1. First, you have to create a Google Analytics account. Log into any Google accounts you already have, whether it's Gmail, Google+, Youtube, etc. and skip to step 6.  If you don't have a Google Account, then proceed to step 2.
  2. Next create a Google Analytics account. Go to google.com/analytics, and click on the 'Create an account' button.
  3. Click the 'SIGN UP' button, populate the fields and click the 'Create My Account' button.
  4. Click the verification email sent to your emaill account.
  5. In the next window Google will ask you if you would like to add a phone number to you account, just click the 'Click here to continue.' link for now.
  6. Click the 'Sign up' button.
  7. Enter the name of your website in the 'Account Name' field.
  8. Enter the URL of your website in the 'Website's URL' field.
  9. Check the TOS box.
  10. Click the 'Create Account' button.
  11. Scroll down the page to the 'Paste this code in your site' box and copy the code snippet.

You can paste this code within your header tags on every page you want tracked. If you are installing the Google Analytics code snippet in a WordPress website, follow the steps below.

Installing Google Analytics code snippet in your WordPress website

  1. Log into your WordPress admin.
  2. Chances are you have a custom theme installed. Access your theme admin by clicking on your theme tab. There should be a large text field labeled 'Google Analytics'. Paste the code snippet in the field and save your changes.

If you don't have a custom theme installed in your WordPress website, then you'll have to install the code snippet manually.

  1. Log into your WordPress admin.
  2. Click on "appearance'.
  3. Click on 'Editor'.
  4. Click on the 'Header' link on the right side of the page.
  5. Scroll through the header code, until you come to the closing head tage:

  6. Paste the code snippet just above the closing head tag.
