A customer once asked me "how to advertise my blog for free?" and I decided to make a blog post about this ironic question. You don't have to advertise a blog. A blog is a means of generating traffic in itself. Most people that blog do so to advertise another website, but displaying ads to the blog traffic. If your blog isn't generating traffic, don't advertise the blog, instead you should make your blog more SEO friendly.
Here are some tips to keep in mine when writing blog posts that will make your blog generate traffic.
- Write blog posts that pertain to the subject matter of the blog.
- Write blog posts that are at least 250 words or more.
- Use proper formatting in your blog posts. Google down-rates blog posts with no text formatting because they think it might be spam. Formatting isn't that significant, but why not cover all the bases?..
- User proper keyword research before you select a topic to blog about. <---This is really important.
- Post daily. Google see blogs that post frequently and makes it a point to check such sites more often. Blogging before your opponents about recent news and events can mean more blog traffic.
- Spend 3 hours minimum a day blogging. The more keyword savvy posts you create, the more traffic you'll get. If you don't post 3 hours daily you can still get website traffic, but chances are you will be in an old people's home before you get significant website traffic.
- Opportunistically ink to 1-2 other post within your blog in the first paragraph of every blog post. This will increase the PR juice of your blog posts overall. If it doesn't seem natural or make sense don't do it.
- Search for similar blogs to your own on Google. Contact these blog owners and offer to write an articles for them free. Writing blog posts for other blogs is called being a contributor or contributing. Make sure you check the PR of the blogs you write articles for. The higher the PR of the blog you write for, the higher your website's PR will be. It is essential that there is a link to your blog from the articles you contribute. Fifty percent of your time should be spent writing blog posts for your blog and the other 50% of your time should be spend contributing.
- If you write a blog posts that's 500 words long, split the post into two 250 word pages. This will force the reader to click the 'next page' link to finish reading your post. When you start advertising clickable ads on your blog, this extra pageview will amount to more ad impressions which means more advertising revenue.
- Make sure your website is simple, mobile device compatible and aesthetic. By the year 2015, everyone on earth will have a internet capable cellphone or smartphone. Be prepared.
