Permalink Keeps Adding Numbers… Solution

Here's a question from one of my Youtube followers:

Question for you: I deleted a page but then decided I wanted to add it back again, and after adding it back, the permalink will now has a "2" at the end of the url. I've tried editing it but it will not save the edit without the "2". Any explanation or suggestions for a work-around. Thanks

Answer:

The pages are stored in the trash.  WordPress appends the number at the end of the permalink to avoid duplicated the page name in the trash. You have to delete them from the trash first.

  1. Click on 'Pages'
  2. Click on the 'Trash' link.
  3. Check all the boxes to the old pages you don't want stored in the trash.
  4. Select 'Delete Perminantly' from the 'Bulk Actions' drop down menu. and click the 'Apply' button.
  5. Now when you recrease the page there won't be any number attached to the permalink.
